Question: What do you think of Stephenie Meyers series Twilight?
I have never read the books, i watched the movies because my sister made me because her friends made her, i ws about 11-12 i think, and personally he looked like an abusive boyfriend in the second part, i tried to read it because people girls keep on saying the books are better then the movies, i was looking on the internet at how Edward and Bella's character's are, as J.K Rowling's characters are real and believable. clearly Bella is a Mary-Sue ad her name is what a typical teenager would name her character in a romance she is writing, Bella means beautiful in french (typical) and her last name is Swan, Edward is just weird and Jacob never wears a shirt, when i found out what happens in breaking dawn, it just seemed disgusting. and why do both characters love Bella if she is not attractive as Stephenie Meyers say she is plain and personally i think her whole character is plain and is just a damsel in distress
Overall the characters are crap, the movies suck and if i had a chance to burn the book i would but i am not wasting money on garbage, i read the first page of the book and it didn't hook me in like any good book would.
and people who think Harry Potter is better than Twilight are probably pubescent teenage girls who want Edward because he is hot. or people who don't know good literature, personally i think it would be embarrassing if i bought or even read the book.
what do you think, please don't rant about why Edward or Jacob is so hot, i deal enough of that in school, if you think i am wrong, don't be afraid to answer.
I think Stephenie Meyers ruined the whole vampire image, i don't hate vampires i watch Vampire Knight and she doesn't make the whole vampire world believable, like J.K Rowling does with Harry Potter, you may say the whole school of wizardry sounds absurd but how she creates this world is believable.
I am only comparing Harry Potter to Twilight as many people say it is better than Harry Potter, i personally don't think they are comparable, the genre and target audience are completely different.
Relation Questions:
Answer:
Twilight? Is that an illness or something?
Twilight talks about a depressed teenage girl who leads a sad and boring life, then she met a ridiculous sparkling fairy who is supposed to be a vampire and she has a friend who is a so-called werewolf, that doesn't own a shirt and can transform at will and is.....and the whole background is depressing and uninteresting...
SM teaches teenage kids about how important it is to have a boyfriend and a guide on how to be emo.
JK teaches kids about love, friendship, hardships and many other things we deal with in everyday life....her stories are amazing and fabulous......you can relate to her story whether you're a child or an old person....Harry Potter is the creation of a Genuis while twilight is the creation of an author who based her stories upon a dream and not imagination as Queen Rowling did!
Harry Potter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> twilight
Its a terrible book, but don't compare it to HP, they're completely different.
I am not trying to change anyone's opinion. I am merely stating mine.
This is how Harry Potter beats Twilight.
Characters:
Harry/Edward
Harry doesn't watch people while they sleep.
Harry wins.
Hermione vs Bella.
Hermione is amazing. She's smart, funny, but she is a bit bossy. Bella, klutzy, kinda obsessive, cannot operate without a man in her life.
Come on. Hermione wins.
Jacob Black/Sirius Black
Jacob Black- He wasn't too bad, to be honest. But Sirius Black rocked!!!
Winner:Sirius
Sport:
Vampire Baseball/Quidditch
Incredibly fast baseball or a completely new sport nobody's ever heard of?? You pick which one's more creative.
Quidditch wins.
Relationships
Bella/Edward or Hermione/Ron.
Bella and Edward knew each other for what? Two years? And then they got married. Hermione and Ron knew each other for 7 years. And both had girlfriends/boyfriends before that. Love at first sight rarely happens.
Morals.
Twilight: The world is perfect. Everyone has a perfect person waiting out there for them
Harry Potter: Love conquers all, friendship is important, the good guys always win.
Realistic
Twilight. Hmm, Bella's a new girl, and she automatically gets all the guys, and everybody totally loves her!!! Oh yeah, that's realistic *sarcasm*
Harry Potter Harry goes through those awkward teenage phases, such as first date, first dance, first kiss, stuff like that. And nothing ever goes perfect.
Harry Potter
SO OVERALL: Harry Potter
Oh and also, Vampires. Don't. Sparkle.
tl;dr I personally can't stand Twilight. It's overrated, crap, but what annoys me the most is that all the characters are Mary-Sues.
And comparing Twilight to Harry Potter is just wrong. Harry Potter = REAL literature, Twilight = garbage. Look, I really couldn't care less about people liking Twilight - that's their opinion. But saying it's better than Harry Potter is just too far. They aren't even alike.
I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!! Words cannot describe my hate for it.
Also, I think you made a typo: "and people who think Harry Potter is better than Twilight are probably pubescent teenage girls". It's the other way around, but it's just a typo, right?
I'll give you the perspective of a girl who lives and breaths twilight. This is going to be long lol, just hang in there. I'm sure you'll probably hate it more, but I don't care. Here it goes. I first heard about it when the first movie came out. I was never interested and I thought it sounded dumb. So I never got into it. Back last June there was some sort of movie awards on mtv, and they showed the breaking dawn trailer. It looked kind of cool to me. A few days later I saw that the movie twilight was coming on in about a half hour. I said to myself "Hey, why not watch this to see what all the hype is about?" After it was over, I didn't know what to think. I loved it. It was about 11pm but I made my mom drive to wal-mart to buy new moon. I loved that too. The next day I got the first two books from the library. Let me just tell you something, okay? Basically my life changed forever when I read twilight. I laughed, I smiled, I cried, and my stomach was filled with knots the whole time I was reading. I've never loved something so much. I loved the whole book: Bella and Edward's relationship, Edward's struggle to stay good, Bella's personality, etc. How could you think she's plain? She's quite the contrary. Even though Edward is my favorite character, (not because he's hot though. you made the assumption all twilight fans are crazy screaming teen girls. were not. well, I am a teen, but not that kind) Bella is my favorite main character I've ever read about. After the book was done, I was so SAD I watched the movie first. It did not do the book justice. Everyone says it sucks when it comes to literature, but I think it's the most amazing thing in the whole world. So I then read new moon. Let's just say I cried again. A lot. Not as much as the first book made me cry though. Finally I made a smart decision and read eclipse before seeing the movie. I'm happy I did. Again, it was much better. Then...I read breaking dawn. Lol. Listen, I most likely love twilight more than anyone does, but breaking dawn was a such a disappointment to me. All of the characters changed, it was not as good as the first three, and...JACOB IMPRINTED ON RENESMEE. I didn't think it was gross, but I was so mad. Jacob has never been my favorite character. And I didn't like how the book set up for this big fight with the volturi, but then they don't have it. I still loved it of course, but it was not what I was expecting. Renesmee made me cry because she's just so amazing. Besides the wedding/honeymoon and when Bella became a vampire, she was my favorite part of the book. My favorite one in the series is twilight because I think it's the most romantic. You'll find that after you overlook all the attention and fame it has, you'll see the real meaning behind it. I know your probably thinking "This girl is insane and does not know good literature at ALL", but I don't care. Twilight is one of the most important things in the world to me, and no one is ever going to change that.
I like both Harry Potter and the Twilight saga, I think the movies ruined the book, they made Edward look like he was a serial killer and its normal for naked men to walk around all the time. I think if the movies would have never come out, only few people would hate on the Twilight Saga, I could be wrong don't hate (appreciate.) Yeah and the first chapter of Twilight is boring, but as I read on I enjoyed it. I say I like the Harry Potter and Twilight books equally but I prefer the Harry Potter movies over the Twilight movies.
"I am only comparing Harry Potter to Twilight as many people say it is better than Harry Potter, i personally don't think they are comparable, the genre and target audience are completely different."
----You
Okay, then. They're completely incompatible, unrelated, and impossible to juxtapose. Some people like them, some people hate them. Neither is correct because it's an opinion.
Without further ado, case closed.
Twilight is a good book, but only because Stephenie is a good romance author. she does this thing that make you feel like you're reading a chick flick. I like her books so so so much, but some parts are a little shallow. For intense, the fact that the werewolves wear so little clothes. she has an excuse but it was written for the movie. The host is like that too in some ways, but I couldn't tell till someone pointed it out, because it isn't aimed at teens but adults. I love her books, but some people don't because of that.
It is impossible to compare the two, I love both books and am obsessed with both.
Honestly. I liked the books. They entertained me. Which is the point of a fiction book. I don't think its some great work of literature but I enjoyed it. I think a lot of the problems some people have with it is that tween girls love it. Yes all this team Edward team Jacob stuff is annoying. But that's the fans not the book. I know I know a lot of people just hated the books. That's their opinion and I respect it. I've hated a few books myself. But the need to go out and trash it is ridiculous. Especially when someone has a real question about the books. I think its so disrespectful. I would like to point out that these books was not made to teach you anything. Stephenie Meyer is not teaching young girls anything. The story is for entertainment only. It's up to parents to decide Wut their children should or should not read. So all this it teaches young girls to base their lives on a guy is total bull. If your not mature enough to see that the book is just a story and nothing more then maybe you shouldn't read it. And wuts so wrong with getting married and having kids young anyway? It's a choice. Anyways sorry for the rant but that's my opinion.
Twilight is a great saga! Its definitely better than Harry Potter (the little geek). Stephenie Meyer didnt ruin my perception on vampires, she put a new twist to them which is cool. I can respect her creativity, and I lover her writing!
