Question: What are some college majors that deal with helping others?

I'm a senior in high school and I'm thinking about what majors I'd like to pursue in college. I'm currently in concert choir. We don't participate in competitions. Instead, we go on a trip once a year and sing to veterans in veterans' hospitals. It is a very rewarding experience and made me realize I'd like to do more to help people. I think I want to participate in a large corporation that helps all different types of people. However, I don't know what kind of major that would deal with. Can someone please help me with this? Thank you very much!

Relation Questions:

Answer:

I think your best bet would be to major in public relations. You could work as a public relation specialist, event coordinator, marketing coordinator, and a public relations manager. In those positions you could market a company, plan events for a company (benefits, public speakings, etc.), or just work with the public in general.

I've been thinking about the same thing! I've talked to my college counselor about it, and she said to not worry too much because what you major in doesn't determine everything.

It really depends on what you want to do to help others - there's such as huge variety! When you say you want to work in a large corporation that helps all different types of people, do you mean like working for a nonprofit? And if so, what aspect of the nonprofit do you see yourself working on? You could be doing anything from working in their office to working with the people who need help.

There's still a lot of time, so I'd recommend narrowing down exactly what you envision yourself doing, say, ten years from now. Personally, I am looking into majors like sociology, psych, women's studies, and international relations because I think I'd either like to work as a counselor for youth addicts or work for a group like Amigos de Las Americas, which sends volunteers to Latin American countries.

Whatever you end up doing, know that you are amazing for dedicating your life to helping others! Best of luck!

Sociology is basically the study of group psychology; you could consider that at least as a minor. Whatever you major in, you could find ways to use it to help others.

If you really think about it, when you go to college, you get a major and then you get a job. Usually your job makes you a contributing member to society, helping people, so your questions is very vague if you really want to help people and save their lives I mean become a doctor, a pharmacist or something.
