As per OTTAWA FAN, I would recommend Dark Tower Series myself.
You don't say what your interests are, but I would go with the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. It starts with The Gunslinger and the characters travel through time and to other worlds. Really, once you get into it, the series would be ideal for anybody!
