Answer:
Whatever the Scottish people chose, is okay with me. I am however sad that a small island like ours, needs to be divided just because some selfish individual has a dream which could turn out to be a nightmare. Hello Alex
John - The Scottish National Party in Scotland UK formally launched its Independence campaign today ahead of a referendum, probably in 2013. Scotland is not in England, by the way.
I say yes. The Scots have loathed being tied to England in the UK for ages. They should have their wish for independence, but they need to understand that if they go they can't come back, and must stand on their own two feet whatever happens.
Oh, and if they vote no, that has to be the end of it.
Scotland is a great country but they just can't survive without England. ROI are independent?! Pah! We're constantly giving them hand-outs. They'd fall apart without us aswell. What would be the point? I'm in Wales & we need England aswell, we're all better off together. United we stand, divided we fall and all that. If Scotland want to be silly & leave (after running up a huge debt & being bailed out yet again after the Scottish banking crisis) then fine, let them go, it will be a mistake though...a big one. If that did happen, then the English & the Welsh people are going to have to put their foot down & refuse to help. Their country, their problem, not ours. They'd be like the 17 year old kid that moves out & thinks they are grown up & independent when mammy & daddy still pay for everything.
Actually, why do we have to wait around, wondering if they're going to break up with us? Maybe Wales & England should hold a referendum & ask all the Welsh people and all the English people if they want Scotland to stay in the UK or if they're as sick of hearing them ***** & moan (whilst taking our money) as I am!
I say let Scotland be independent but it must be total. They must have no MPs in the English Parliament, no hand outs or subsidies of any kind, no membership of the EU (not that that is anything wonderful), a need to have a passport to enter England, Wales or Northern Ireland, all Scots living in the remaining 3 countries to be given a chance to naturalise as English or be required to have a renewable work permit on a 6 monthly basis. I could go on but I think my meaning is quite clear at this stage.
The Scotts will go on about the oil but this will not keep their finances afloat for more than a year.
No. I just don't trust Alex Salmond. He reminds me of the class sneak of my schooldays and when he comes across a problem he can't solve easily he simply ignores it. Also he has stated that he will retire from politics when independence is gained but I just don't believe him.
If scotland want indpendence, let them join the Euro. No subsidies from England, no more free health care, no free education, no more sctish infuence on English policy, So yes let them go
Yes to independence always.
I don't see why not.. We left them years ago.
YES
No.
No; we'd lose some of the best scenery in Britain.
