Question: Please help me with this paragraph?
I am having trouble understanding the question.
The question is: what is the common saying that is alluded to in paragraph 3 and what do you think that phrase means.
Here is the paragraph.
Phsychologists from South Africa to chicago have begun to recognize that extreme self-centeredness is the forest in these stories, and all othet things-- guns, games, lyrics, pornography-- are just trees. To list the traits of the narcissist is enough to prove the point: grandiosity, numbness to the needs of othets, emotional isolation, resentment and envy.
Please help me, I cannot find a common phrase in this paragraph.
Relation Questions:
Answer:
The phrase is that (such and such) is the story and (such and such) are the trees.
In this case it means that the forest is the main point in the stories, the rest of the concept are more minor parts to the stories, or even props to the story.
