Question: Legitimate rape and god's pregnancy protection plan?

I'm really interested in how many christians really believe this. I am astounded to learn that this is part of fundamentalists' christian orthodoxy and that the idea has been around for about 20 years or so and that it has been said by several politicians over the years.

That's bullshit. There's a nice little takedown of that line here: http://drjengunter.wordpress.com/2012/08…

The christian that's running for vice-president of the United States does:

"Legitimate" rape. That is an alarming phrase. The suggestion here is that if a woman conceives....then she was not raped.
This is yet another attempt to reduce women back to chattel status.

I hope no one believes it because statistics show that roughly 5% of rapes result in pregnancy.

I checked this out on various web sites and the average pregnancy rates for rape victims is between 3% and 5%. There are various reasons for this of course such as the woman is on birth control, infertile, wrong time of month, man is wearing condom, etc. but you get the point. Obviously, the pregnancy rate isn't that high.
There was another reason I saw that perhaps reduces the pregnancy rate. Apparently there is a real cocktail of chemicals and hormones that are responsible for the ability of a woman to get pregnant. The production of this cocktail is regulated by a portion of the brain that is easily influenced by emotion. It is entirely possible that the extreme emotional trauma that accompanies rape can cause the brain to produce the wrong chemicals, or not produce them, following rape which would lower the pregnancy rate also.
