Question: Is East New York, Brooklyn a bad place to be even early in the morning?

I heard ENY Brooklyn isnt the safest place to be in NY but would if I were to walk around ENY at 7am maybe for work, church, or school, do you think I would be safe?

PS - In my particular situation, I'd be carrying a guitar but I prefer not to tell my entire situation.

Answer:

Statistically it's one of the 2 or 3 most dangerous neighborhoods in the city. I wouldn't feel comfortable walking around with a guitar -- it;s likely to be grabbed by someone who will pawn it for a few bucks.

Well, like I said on city-data, I'd transfer at a well-traveled area like Broadway Junction. The walk from the bus is only a couple of blocks, so I think you'd be alright, especially early in the morning (it helps if your destination is on a main street).

I think you might be able to get a cab at the train station, though I'd make sure it's legitimate.

Nobody can tell for sure. I agree that early in the morning is probably safer than the evening or late at night. But all it takes is for an unpleasant person to be hanging out at that hour with crime on his mind, and you'd be in trouble. Of course, if you live there and know people, you'd probably be somewhat safer.

If you're talking about a Sunday morning, I think the situation would be best, as many of the people go to church then, and the thugs will be largely sleeping off their Saturday night.
