Hmm, interesting question, glad you asked. There are several advantages to cubes or crushed ice depending on how one likes they're drink. If you like the ice chunks mixing with the drink and occasionally swallowing them then crushed is the way to go. But if you like the chill of the ice but do not want the actual ice in your mouth then cubes seem like the best alternative. Its all about perspective my friend. Once you realize this you will unlock the doors to freedom.

I love crushed ice in my drinks. They are more easier to eat than ice cubes and I think they taste better in my tea or coke. :D
