Question: Borders closing sale: is 40% as low as they discount books?

A Borders store near me is closing today. books have been 40% off for 2 weeks! Do you think they will have discounted the price more today? It says "everything must go", but do they really just keep the ones that won't sell at 40% off? Thanks.

Answer:

When the Borders Express around here closed, they took most books down to 60% off. After that, any that were left over were returned to the publisher. They put signs up to let people know that 60% was their final discount and that there wouldn't be any more markdowns.

Other merchandise, like cards, journals, gifts, etc. went up to 90% off.

You can ask the employees what they expect to happen, too, they might be able to share some info--or the management may not tell them until the day they plan to lower the discount, it all depends on how the store works. But it doesn't hurt to ask, right? I'm sure they're getting that question a lot.

Oh yeah, and if they clear out enough stuff, they may close earlier and won't discount further in that case.
