Question: Atheists do good out of a sincere desire; Christians do good because an old book tells them to. Who is?
the better person?
Relation Questions:
Answer:
Authenticity in one's actions is always important. Keep in mind that being Christian and believing in the words of the Bible are not mutually exclusive. A Christian or a person of any faith can be motivated by a sincere desire to do good.
According to Judaism, the Christians:
"In contemporary western society, most people believe voluntary act to be on a higher plane than obligatory ones; after all, they reason, isn’t a person who does an act voluntarily nobler than one who does it because he feels obligated? Yet the Talmud takes precisely the opposite point of view: 'Greater is he who is commanded and carries out an act, than he who is not commanded, and carries out an act, than he who is not commanded, and carries it out' (Kiddushin 31ª). Apparently, the rabbis of the Talmud believed that obligatory acts will be carried out with greater consistency and staying power than voluntary ones.'" -- Rabbi Joseph Telushkin

Let me ask you: who's the better mother? The mother who only changes her child's diaper when she feels like it, or the mother who changes her child's diaper whether or not she feels like it because it is her duty?
Good by who's standards? By the Atheist or by God?
@taby: I don't care if it's gross or a 'sin'.
It most certainly is not immoral. You don't get to throw around random words and get away with it.
And why did you even bring up that issue?
Christians are capable of being good without god.But they choose to give all credit to their magical sky man.god knows why. (get it? )
Atheists don't always do good because they WANT to. They may feel compelled to obey moral laws in the same way Christians are compelled to obey God.
Atheists may also have ulterior motives for being moral - such as trying to prove to Christians that they can be moral.
Based on your premise, both are equally good. The difference is that the existence of the parents of Atheists is logically provable, while the existence of the Christian version of "god" is logically disprovable.

First I have to see an atheist doing good. You can toot your own horn all you want to but if I don't see any of this goodness myself it means nothing to me.
I do good because the Holy Spirit that moved in me when I was born again leads me too. Speak for yourself.
The former, of course.
aren't the atheists TAUGHT from their parents good & bad? we're taught from the bible
What do deists do good out of?
Just call a spade a spade already !!
Homosexuality is a gross, immoral, repugnant, SIN !!!!!
NEVER use the "g" word to describe homosexuals. That word means happy, and there has never been a happy homosexual !!!!
