Question: 100% sincere question: WHY do people hate Jews?
I know this is a very touchy subject, but im honestly confused? To this day i hear people cracking jokes about Jews, and far back in history people have disliked Jews. Im not sure if im naive about the whole subject but i honestly want to know why people look down upon Jews?

It would amuse me, if it wasn't so deadly, the way so many people hate Jews.
1. Jesus was a JEW!
2. Less than 1/2 of 1% of the entire world's population are Jews. There aren't enough of them to do 1 millionth of the things they are accused of doing.
3. All Jew haters should stop getting polio & hepatitis vaccines (to name just 2), start drinking unpasteurized milk, go back before micro-processors, never see another Spielberg or Kasdan movie again, ignore that Freud & Einstein were Jews - I could go on for entire days listing the accomplishments & advances the Jewish people have given the world, including the basis for most of the west's religions - The 10 Commandments.
The reason people have historically hated Jews is because they refused to give up their way of life & set themselves apart - claiming Jesus wasn't their Messiah - and neither was Allah. Nothing infuriates people more than a denial of their faith. Combine that w/their love of learning, education and cleanliness and you have a people who persevere, succeed and advance. Good enough reasons to hate them all.
Jews are hated in paradoxes: Jews are hated for being a lazy and inferior race - but also for dominating the economy and taking over the world. We are hated for stubbornly maintaining our separateness - and, when we do assimilate - for posing a threat to racial purity through intermarriages. We are seen as pacifists and as warmongers; as capitalist exploiters and as revolutionary communists; possessed of a Chosen-People mentality, as well as of an inferiority complex. It seems that we just can't win.

There is nothing wrong with jews. The Holocaust was not a funny thing. Jews are what started Christianity.
I have a friend who hates Jews. He claims that the Jews have manipulated the banking system to work in their favor. He also claims that Gatorade produced other flavors than the original orange and green as part of some kind of global conspiracy to trick people into accepting changes and things that should not exist, such as Jews.
I agree completely. I'm a jewish man and frankly do not fit into any of these stereotypes stated in the ignorant statements above. I'm by no means wealthy, I know about as much about banking as AIG and do not hate gentiles. I'm not a very religious Jew, but nonetheless I am Jewish and I appreciate my heritage. The common misconception that Jews are the wealthy bankers pulling the strings, stems from medieval times. In those times all people had to pay a tithe, or a substantial tax to the church. The only people exempt from this tax were obviously the Jews, so they naturally held on to more of they're money. To answer the question, I simply do not know why people hate Jews so fervently. Honestly, the majority of the major religions either share an overwhelming number of principles with Judaism, or directly stemmed from it. I do not see why people feel the need to hate a group of people that only numbers in the 15 million area, while many other religions reach the hundreds of millions, or even billions in population.
Why are people who are giving hateful explanations getting a lot of thumbs up, while all of the ones that are saying hate is ridiculous getting a lot of thumbs down?
I'm Jewish and:
1. Am not at all wealthy
2. Try to be kind to others
3. Don't think any less of those that aren't Jewish
The concept that we are the "Chosen Ones" is not meant to be arrogant. It means that G-d chose us to receive the rules and set an example of how we should live. Some people may have encountered Jewish people who are not so nice, but they are going against what Judaism is all about. We are suppose to be supporting Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. Just because someone met a Jewish person that was not so nice doesn't mean that we all are like that.
The concept of "we are responsible for killing Jesus" is 1. not true, and 2. that would be like saying "a roman killed a Jew in ancient times, so therefore we should hate Romans for all eternity.
The concept of us being wealthy is not true. Many Jewish people are not wealthy. We are actually suppose to be charitable. The "Jews being wealthy" thing probably does date back to the whole usury issue, and the fact that Jews weren't allowed to work in many other places.
Some people may not like us because, especially in the past, have refused to conform and assimilate, although many have.
People should just remember this phrase: "Do unto others as you want done to yourself."
Good Lord, why would anyone hate another human being? Just because people disagree is no excuse for hating. That is stupid, ignorant, and childish. So long as there there is no threat of danger or harm, whether we like it our not, we are all brothers and sisters created by God, and we are expected to be polite, kind, and understanding to one another. We can leave the result to our Creator in the end.

Answer: Jews refuse to convert. That irritates or even enrages some Christians and Muslims. By refusing to convert, that calls the later religions into question.
Others hate Jews because of the focus on G-d, religion, family, education and helping others over leaders or politicians - like Hitler who wanted a country focused on him and the Nazis, not on G-d.
I was told that it was originally because when Pontius Pillate (sp?) asked whether Jesus should be crucified, his fellow Jews said "yes". So for a couple of thousand years, christians have considered Jews responsible for the death of Jesus.
As time progressed, other reasons arose. Jews became successful merchants. And, one of the key reasons, they became some of the first money lenders. Because they were not subject to the christian laws against charging interest (usury), they could lend money AND charge interest, thus became wealthy from lending money to christians. Of course, no one likes to see anyone else become wealthy when they are not. So mostly the later reasons have to do with jealousy and greed.
There is no reason. It's a bit like trying to work out 'why' men rape women. Answer: because they *can*.
Jews have been killed and persecuted whether they were poor or rich; whether they were assimilated or Orthodox; whether religious or secular; whether powerless or powerful.
Much of the hatred stems from the fact that, as the first and original monotheism, Judaism doesn't need either Christianity or Islam. Both these faiths say anti Jewish things. And just as - historically - the Church condoned hatred of and violence towards Jews, so too TODAY, Muslim preachers condone the same thing in most Muslim countries.

To correct some answers given by people:
1 - people never hated Jews because they were moneylenders. Jews were moneylenders BECAUSE anti semitism MEANT they were forbidden from being anything BUT moneylenders!
2 - the Jewish messianic prophecies are in the Tanakh; there are 23 of them. Nobody has yet fulfilled them before dying - there is no 'second coming' in Judaism.

Nobody that I know, hates Jews. The reason do it, is because they like to make fun of folks who are different from them.
Many times, its for reason of jealousy.... Why?
-Many are financially affluent
-They are good business men/women
-They have better work ethics than many
-They are willing to make sacrifices to get to where they want
-They have a "can do" mentality and seldom take hand-outs
In short... most is because of jealousy.
I myself have nothing against Jews... in fact, my uncle is one (he married into the family) and he is a great person.
I honestly don't know the answer to that one.
Here are a couple theories
1.) The world has been broken and corrupted by sin. This includes making fun of people just because of their heritage.
2.) In the Old Testament the Israelites were God's chosen people. The only chosen people. I can see how people could be jealous of that.
3.) The New Testament is very critical of the Pharisees (priests for the Israelites). Christians could be stuck in that mindset, even though they should NOT be.
4.) (And this one is touchy) First I'll explain that I am a follower of Christ, and just recently got rid of my "fire insurance" faith and made the choice to follow Christ with everything, and in everything. So you could call me a Christian, although that term has a Lot of other connotations that are not in fact "Christian" So, now you know what I believe in.
I believe that God gave lots of prophecy about the Messiah He was going to send. I believe that Jesus Christ fulfills every single one of those prophecies. I believe the Messiah's purpose was to create a New Covenant so that all people could have a deep personal relationship with God. I also know that God can use bad events in our lives as discipline for character growth. The jews that are around today deny Christ as being the Messiah. Even when they were in a good position to see the Messiah. So God could be discipling them. (That's the touchy part).
IMO, 1 and 3 are the most likely. But I can't say for sure.

My mother doesn't like them because they don't believe in the divinity of Jesus. But she also hates catholics because they worship false idols (saints and such). That's the only reason I've ever heard. And I didn't say I hated them. I'm just telling you what my bible thumping mom believes. Other than that, I have no idea why people hate jews. They look like every other white person to me.
i crap on all religions. jews get it too but scientologists, muslims and christians get the worst of it since they are the least respectfull of others.

I do not like the Jewish religion, nor do I like any of the Abrahamic religions. They preach hate, genocide, slavery, rape, mass murder, paleocentrism, male supremacy, etc.
For the same reason some people hate black, Mexican, Asian, Russian, Persian people etc. Because some people hate other people for no real reason other than the fact that they want someone to hate.
